What IM Client Do You Use?
If you haven’t used an instant messenger, raise your hand. Put it down, I can’t see it and you just made yourself look silly.
Most people today have used some form of instant messaging, whether it’s through a downloaded application or through Facebook, communication has never quite been the same since this technology came out in the 1990s.
Today, there are so man different ways to get conversing that I have to wonder why it isn’t easier to talk between networks. I mean, why is it that I still have to have a separate account on multiple servers to talk with multiple people!
At some point in the last five years I changed from using Trillian, a downloadable application, to Meebo, a web based chat program that connects to all the popular services.
Why?
- I believe I was changing PCs, and I lost the password to my MSN account1
- I was behind a corporate firewall, and MSN wouldn’t connect through it. 2
- I usually had a browser open anyway, so the idea of only having to have one application open was appealing.
- And then there was the whole “I never have to download a copy of the latest version of a person’s app– I’m always using the latest version!”
So, if you’re using an instant messaging system, try out Meebo. I think you’ll like it’s features. And if you don’t want to just take my word for it, Lifehacker named it in its Top 5 Instant Messaging Applications!
